In the heart of one of Africa’s most untouched wilderness reserves lies the elegantly appointed Tintswalo Safari Lodge. As one of only two commercial properties on the almost 57,000-acre Manyeleti Game Reserve, the five-star boutique lodge enjoys the richness of an authentic African safari without the tourist crowds.
Forming part of the world-renowned Greater Kruger Park — South Africa’s most-celebrated nature reserve — the private Manyeleti Game Reserve offers a vast bushland abundant in wildlife, birdlife and epic scenery. Tintswalo Safari Lodge game drives boast sightings of the Big Five, the charmingly named Small Five, and an abundance of other game, big cats and unusual creatures, not to mention the enchanting sounds and magical silences of Africa’s most pristine wilderness.
Tintswalo Safari Lodge has six king suites, a presidential suite and a new luxury two-bedroom villa. The suites, lining the banks of a seasonal river, are decorated and named after early explorers. Combining colonial decor with modern conveniences, the lodge has a comfy and understated style, and enjoys the luxuries of private plunge pools and panoramic views of the surrounding bush.
Personal touches include canvas game drive bags filled with delicious treats, binoculars and informative reference books, as well as sundowner stops or decadent bush breakfasts cooked over a wood fire. Itineraries are fully personalised.
As well as game drives, which can be undertaken on foot or in an open 4WD, Tintswalo Safari Lodge offers various other activities. These include: the Manyeleti community trip, an excursion into the neighbouring community that offers the chance to meet families, view craftspeople at work and perhaps visit a school or a sangoma (traditional healer); an early-morning hot air balloon flight over the bushveld to view the sunrise; and an educational outing to the nearby Hoedspruit Cheetah Research Project.
During the day, each meal is served in a new location — from the raw beauty of a bush breakfast to a starlit dinner on the deck or a romantic, candlelit dinner in the wine cellar.
