Opened in 1908 as the UK’s first country club, Stoke Park Country Club, Spa & Hotel is set in 300 acres of parkland, pocketed with lakes, gardens and historic monuments. A star of the silver screen, Stoke Park has featured in a number of famous films, including Bridget Jones’s Diary and Goldfinger — the latter’s golfing scene was shot on the lush greens that wrap around the hotel.
Guests can bed down in one of 49 rooms and suites — from cosy, oak-panelled options furnished with fine art and antiques in the Georgian mansion house, to more contemporary styles in the Pavilion, accented with bold pop art. The hotel’s three restaurants, bars and lounges include the 3 AA Rosette-winning Humphry’s, headed up by award-winning chef Chris Wheeler. On the menu are classic British dishes with a modern twist. Elsewhere, relaxed brasserie San Marco serves Italian fare, while a pianist serenades guests at afternoon tea in The Orangery.
To counteract any over-indulgence, there’s a newly refurbished gym; alternatively, fitness instructors lead a range of classes, from HIIT to hot yoga and spinning. Golfers can work on their handicap on the 27-hole championship golf course or at the all-weather range and indoor swing studio.
There are also 13 multi-surface tennis courts, including four floodlit clay, three indoor and six Wimbledon-spec grass options. Every year, The Boodles event allows tennis fans to watch top stars play up close (no seat is further than 10 metres from the action), with last year’s event welcoming back the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
For those who prefer to limit their leisure activity to ambling from pool to massage table, the award-winning spa features a tranquil garden that’s home to a Scandinavian sauna, an indoor heated pool with hydro-seats and a private atrium with a tropical aquarium. There’s also a relaxation room, Italian marble steam rooms and a nail bar, plus an array of luxury treatments, from a CACI facial combining microcurrent with microdermabrasion to a spa ritual with a full-body exfoliation, ayurvedic massage and a body wrap.
Corporate events can also be centred on golf, tennis, the spa, or other team-bonding activities.
