Rivertrees Country Inn, Tanzania

Nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru and commanding a majestic view of Kilimanjaro, Rivertrees offers a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by indigenous wildlife and birds.

Amidst tropical gardens filled with bougainvillea, hibiscus and banana trees, this picturesque country estate combines old-world ambience, rustic African elegance, excellent farm cuisine, personal service and genuine warmth.

With its humble beginnings as a delightful B&B, the old Farm House is decorated with cherished family antiques and portraits of a bygone era — it’s a charming setting where guests can enjoy the vistas from the spacious veranda or curl up in front of the fireplace on a cool evening.

The inn’s timeless tranquillity is complemented by contemporary comforts, rendering it the perfect spot for rest and rejuvenation.

Arusha National Park, with its rich variety of wildlife, lies just 15 minutes’ drive away, but as the lodge is also only 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro international airport, it’s a popular place for weary travellers, mountain climbers and safari-goers alike to gather here to commence or conclude their adventures.

While most guests stay for only a few days, longer stays at the property are not uncommon.

Set among 10 acres of lush greenery and riverine vegetation, there are possibilities for massage treatments, lounging by the swimming pool, river walks, mountain biking, bird-watching and, of course, exploring oft-unseen elements of rural Tanzanian life.

Guests can stay in garden rooms furnished with antique pieces or in two river cottages, cocooned in thickets of vegetation with private decks and wood-burning fireplaces. Rooms are individually styled with adjoining rooms making it effortless for friends and family to enjoy their stay together.

There’s also a River House with two double suites, a lounge with fireplace and a private deck by the river.

Rivertrees’ lively restaurant, bar and open kitchen serves gourmet country cuisine, using fresh farm vegetables, fruits and herbs grown in its own vegetable gardens. Meals can be enjoyed in the restaurant, at the bar, al fresco under the trees, on the river deck, or in the restored farmhouse.

Rivertrees also specialises in catering for seminars, weddings, conferences, and other special occasions.
