The ‘Pristine New Zealand’ trip places customers in an exclusive group of ‘have-dones’ who have seen both islands of New Zealand. They understand that it’s the accessibility of solitude and beautiful backcountry, the lovable locals, and wonderful wine which all blend together over 13 amazing days, to create an enriching experience. Guests begin their trip with a cruise into the Hauraki Gulf from Auckland’s iconic harbour, to the ‘wine island’ of Waiheke. Golden sandy beaches and hidden coves characterise the island’s coastline, while Bordeaux-style blends are among its wine wherewithal.
Next, travellers, in the company of local guides, venture into the heart of the volcanic north: Rotorua. The luxurious perfection and elegance of the Wai Ora Resort on the shores of Lake Rotorua are offset by the barren, bubbling landscapes of the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. Guests take gentle walks on some of the North Island’s most scenic tracks, including the cataract of Huka Falls, a lap of a cavernous crater-lake and visits to lava-formed waterfalls. The North Island half of the trip culminates in a visit to Sanctuary Mountain, a large-scale species-protection programme with a ‘predator-proof fence’, and a stay in Turangi, on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tongariro — New Zealand’s oldest national park.
The mountainous South Island beautifully complements the volcanic north, and guests begin their exploration with the Central Otago wine region, and the bustling resort town of Queenstown. The town lies in the Lake Wakatipu basin, below striking peaks, surrounded by opportunities for adventure.
A cruise on Milford Sound, spotting marine wildlife, is this trip’s second stop at a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s often the highlight for guests — along with gentle walks on the worldfamous Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks.
The final two nights of the trip are spent at the sleepy settlement of Glenorchy, at the head of Lake Wakatipu. Guests stay in sustainable accommodation in one of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand.
