The Kulm Hotel St. Moritz is based in the heart of the Upper Engadine valley in the eastern Swiss Alps. Right in the centre of the picturesque town of St. Moritz, it’s nearly 6,000ft above sea level, in the town long being famous for its lake, thermal baths and healthy mineral water, not to mention winter sports.
With a total of 172 rooms and suites — elegant and modern in design — the hotel is renowned for its style and originality. The distinguished mark of the building’s decorative art is the combination of late-19th-century elegance and local Engadine architecture. The entrance hall and hotel lobby represent luxury and comfort all in one. Walls covered in pine wood and elegant textiles, redesigned in 1993 by the Italian architect Lorenzo Mongiardino, create an ambiance in which to unwind during an afternoon tea break, with views over Lake St. Moritz and the Alpine panorama.
The hotel’s restaurants include: the Grand Restaurant, an elegant dining option steeped in tradition; the K, a gourmet restaurant serving up modern French-Mediterranean cuisine; the Bob Restaurant, located a 10-minute walk from the hotel in the Starthaus (the starting gate building for the Olympic bob runs), which has a menu of light and rustic dishes; and Chesa al Parc, offering an array of Swiss delicacies and international dishes. There’s also the casual, authentic and innovative scene restaurant, Kulm Country Club; and Sunny Bar, which dishes up authentic Peruvian street food; plus The Pizzeria.
More hidden treasures can be found at the Kulm Spa, which has recently been fully renovated. Among the modern facilities are a private spa suite, 11 treatment rooms, saunas, a hair and beauty salon and an outdoor pool, operated during both the summer and winter seasons. In the wellness section, therapists offer massages, body and facial treatments while the fitness centre runs yoga, pilates, body workout and meditation classes.
The extensive grounds of the hotel also include the resort’s nine-hole golf course and the highest fairway in the Alps, as well as three tennis courts and, in winter, a natural ice rink.
