Tofino: Storm watching

Mother Nature had been busy painting a picture for our arrival at the end of the Pacific Rim Highway on Vancouver Island. With a howl of wind and flick of water, she had transformed what could be a drab palette of woeful greys, rusty reds and muddy browns into an eerily beautiful composition.

One might have imagined that I would feel cold, crunching barefoot through sheets of sparkling white stuff in Canada’s sub-Arctic Northwest Territories (NWT). But the summer sun was blazing and the white carpet that lined Wood Buffalo National Park was made entirely of salt, not the snow that covers it in winter.
